Built on the shoulders of classic 60s psychedelic rock, lyrical folk and contemporary New Zealand blues music, Wellington quartet “Little Bushman” exemplify unpredictable, sincere musical explorations. Serving it up like a slow acting shot of adrenaline, through live performance and recorded output, their presence has been felt both in NZ and abroad. Filtering the real, the unreal and things worth standing up for into song, this is music optimistically dreaming of a better tomorrow, re-imagined one note at a time.

Born in 2005 from a bond of friendship between Warren Maxwell, brothers Tom and Joe Callwood and Rick Cranson, Little Bushman have extensive musical histories. The members of Little Bushman having held, past or concurrent, postings with the likes of TrinityRoots, Fat Freddy’s Drop & The Phoenix Foundation & more. Under the Little Bushman banner, the fruits of these intertwining lives have been expressed in manifold – through their critically acclaimed long-player albums Onus of Sand (2005) Pendulum (2007) Te Oranga (2011), and a noteworthy concert recording Live in concert with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (2009).

On the touring circuit, in the white hot heat of the moment, their impact has been felt in numerous solo concerts and festivals throughout NZ such as Splore, Surfaid, Parihaka Peace Festival, Bluesfest NZ, Homegrown, Southern Amp, Rhythm and Vines, WOMAD and the Queenstown Winter Festival – as well as in Australia at Island Vibe, AWME and The West Coast Blues & Roots Festival, and in April 2011 a 2-show slot at the revered Byron Bay Bluesfest.

As testament to their recordings and stage performance, Little Bushman have been shoulder-tapped to tour with the esteemed likes of Dave Dobbyn, Don McGlashin, Donovan Frankenreiter and Blue King Brown.
